Top Five Things Entrepreneurs Can Learn From Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs, Silicon Valley Entrepreneur, and college dropout, is one of the most innovative and visionary businessmen alive today. Jobs’ accomplishments have literally helped shape the way we communicate with each other, and the way we use technology. If you are unaware of who this man is, he is the co-founder of the rags to riches company known today as Apple Computers. In 1972, Jobs graduated from high school and enrolled in Reed College in Portland, Oregon, where he later dropped out after attending only one semester. Although he was no longer an official student, he continued to audit classes. He attributes one of those classes, Calligraphy, to his discovery that the Mac computer could have multiple typefaces, and proportionally spaced fonts (Wikipedia.com).

Jobs has an extensive history in business, and has been involved in numerous note-worth ventures and positions. In 1986, Jobs acquired the computer graphics division of Lucasfilm LTD, which later became Pixar Animation Studios, where he was Chief Executive Officer until Disney acquired the company in 2006.

There is a lot that Entrepreneurs and Small Business Owners can learn from Steve Jobs, and his passion for business, life, and for doing both of them right. All of the following quotes are from the man himself:

  1. Be An Innovative Thinker: “Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.”
  2. Expect Excellence: “Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren’t used to an environment where excellence is expected.”
  3. Love What You Do: “The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.”
  4. Find Your Purpose: “We’re here to put a dent in the universe. Otherwise, why even be here.”
  5. Don’t Live Someone Else’s Life: “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
